Tis the season… of Galas & Festivities, get togethers and good food. Oh and don’t forget the giving – there’s lots of giving going on too… Tis the season of giving!
“The habit of giving only enhances the desire to give”
~ Walt Whitman
We’re only 4 days into December and already my husband and I have attended 2 events, back to back I might add (and in the middle of the week too – lol – that’s a rarity for us).
Tis the season right?
I took my own advice – from my last post on “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff This December… and had it all logged in our Calendars so we were both prepared.
The first event we attended this week was the Women’s Business Network Christmas Gala which I was really excited to attend as we had missed it last year. Truth be told we were off cruising in celebration of our 25th Wedding Anniversary last year when the event was held.
But this year I wanted to get in on the action, as there was a silent & live auction too in support of the YWCA Crossroads Shelter in Peterborough. All proceeds going to a great cause that the WBN supports. I was excited to be donating a gift – which surprisingly went for higher than the retail price (that’s always cool), and it was fun to place some bids too. I’m happy to say that we won one of our bids, which was for “Painting for Two” with Spirits & Splatters. Ever since I’d seen the table set up at one of our WBN events, I’ve wanted to give it a try… and now we will be (hopefully for the Dec 17th session – a new event to add to our calendar).
The WBN Gala was a festive evening of mingling with friends, sharing good conversation over drinks, and sampling wonderful hors d’oeuvres that were served throughout the night. Top it off with giving (and receiving) at the silent auction tables – made it a well rounded evening.
Next up (this evening) we attended another event of firsts… it was titled “Local Night at Elements” an evening of local community. We were invited a few weeks ago, by One More Yogi a wonderful gal who is big into Yoga, healthy living and a world traveller too (whose family used to be our neighbours several years ago). We quickly accepted, not fully knowing what we were in for – but always game to try something new … and we like Yoga and we tend to love food adventures too – so why not.
The event was hosted by Elements Fine Dining Restaurant – and it was a first for them hosting this type of event. There was live music, a little bit of yoga to get our digestive tracks in gear (guided by Balance At Work), door prizes, great conversation, wonderful foods & wines (it was actually a 6-course meal prepared entirely with ingredients from local farms & food producers – amazing), and again there was a silent auction. Gotta love the spirit of giving… the proceeds of this auction were in support of Jumping Mouse Nature Education, a local small business that is working to reconnect children with nature (for which I had never heard of until now).
So did we bid… Yup we did – and we got out-bid too (oh well – part of the fun).
Did we win any of our bids… Yup – we won one – yeah!
It’s actually a cool little package of dinner at Gerti’s with a show at Showplace Performance Centre and then dessert too at Black Honey. This is awesome… another event to put on our Calendars – “Fleetwood Mac – Rumours”, (but not until the new year ) and we’ve given support to another organization – how cool is that?
I love this time of year… of events, sharing, giving and hanging out with cool people.
Even though it’s a busy time – it’s a fun time too.
What are you up to this month & do you have it marked in your Calendar yet?
Are you in the Giving Spirit yet & if so – what type of giving are you participating in?
